Multitasking Makes You Stupid

Americans have become chronic multitaskers.

Employees are asked to get more done in less time and with less help these days. This is nothing new; for decades companies have been getting more and more lean with their teams.

Tips for Setting a Schedule for a Productive Week

Getting to sit down at home at the tail end of a long week and know that you have done everything that you can to be as productive as possible makes you feel really, really good. You feel more relaxed and your conscience is less heavy because you can rest in the fact that you were super productive. It sounds like a fantastic situation, but it does take some leg work for anyone to reach this point. Being productive, no matter what your life looks like, can help you feel more ready to rest and feel more encouraged to start again right back at it when your next week starts.

Tech Timeout: 8 Tips for Finding Balance in Our Digital World

There are many thing of which a wise man might wish to be ignorant. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Let’s face it, we Green Divas are all over the digital media space, right? The Lie of "No Time"

We all fall prey to it at some point.

And while there may be legitimate periods of time that are completely full and inflexible, our lives as a whole are not.

We’re trying to regain some control.

Time Management Doesn't Work!

Have you ever wondered why time management doesn’t stick?

You know what I mean… You try this course, read that book, get this app, make lists, use the calendar (digital or paper), schedule, prioritize – and still feel frustrated, overwhelmed and have no time!

Why is that?

I have a theory. I think most books, courses, and systems are working on the pieces of the puzzle.

Time Management: When is a Task Not a Task?

Do you under-estimate the time something will take when planning your work?

A client said she was discovering that many things were taking longer than she originally thought and had originally planned for. (We were discussing the progress she was making in taking control of her schedule and her results.)

This is not an unusual situation, but I was curious, so I started asking questions. For example, she had blocked 90 minutes to write a blog post, but was finding that wasn’t enough time. I wanted to know why was it taking over 90 minutes to write the post.

Has Your Exercise Equipment Ever Attacked You?

Lessons From A Bruised Foot

Have you ever been attacked by a piece of exercise equipment? Or is that just me?

I was setting up one of the only pieces of equipment I own (something like a dancer’s barre), when the legs dropped quicker than I anticipated and a cross brace came down HARD on the top of my foot!

It was a heavy cross brace, and it really hurt! My foot immediately began swelling – so I hobbled in to the kitchen to get ice.

I Know What to Do - I Just Can't Make Myself Do It

Here’s an example of the kind of letter I frequently receive from my clients:

I know what I need to do, I just can’t make myself do it. I watch endless YouTube videos, I play computer solitaire, I fool around on Facebook — I even scrub my kitchen floors — all just to avoid the work that I
know is my destiny. I get so mad at myself. Am I chasing a shadow goal? What do I do? — Elizabeth

Here’s what I would say to Elizabeth, and to you, since chances are fairly high you are dealing with the same concerns:

Is Your Schedule Working Against You?

How many of you are working from a schedule?

Some kind of schedule?

There are many different ways to approach your schedule.

Some of you, I am sure, would rather be very spontaneous. So, your schedule is most likely kept fairly open, with just critical, time-based items listed (doctors appointments, birthdays, events).

Others of you have the kind of work where virtually every minute of your day is tightly planned and scheduled. If you lost your calendar (paper, electronic) you would probably panic!

5 Reasons to Work Less (and Get More Done)

Why is it we think the solution to getting something done is to throw more time at it? You know what I mean. Just 5 more minutes. If I just keep pressing through I will actually get it done.

Five more minutes turns into 2 hours, and we are no closer to finishing than we were before. Then, of course, we usually think there is something wrong with us. What’s wrong with us that we can’t get through this? And we can’t even think straight we are so tired!
