Why I Hate Networking Events

I hate networking events.

Don’t get me wrong, I love meeting new people. In fact, in my “business” meeting new people is a must.  As an entrepreneur, correction as a “solopreneur” (which just means I am a lonely entrepreneur) I’ve got to get out and meet people to keep myself from going crazy.

The phrase "I hate networking but love meeting new people" reminds me of one of those logic equations I had to solve in college philosophy:

If all frogs are green and all trees are green, then are all frogs trees.

Scanning and Shredding Documents

To Shred or Not to Shred

Too much paper makes everyone crazy and I’m no exception.

Today I’m going through all my paper files to pull out everything that can be tossed, scanned, and/or shredded.

I’m committed to moving less paper out of this apt than I moved in with.

I’ll be on the lookout for anything I can find online and bookmark or download and file digitally.

I’ll also be looking for things I saved for old projects or as resources and scan those as well.

Hey Executives! These 6 Artists Help Solve Business Problems

Have you ever been sitting at your desk, staring off into space, thinking, this time I’m really out of rabbits…?

Business problems tend to get complicated, fast. When money, politics, and people are wound up together in a tight, sticky knot, seemingly simple obstacles can feel impossible to overcome. Like a giant Jenga game hanging in the balance, if you slide one piece even a millimeter the whole tower could topple.

The Never-Ending To Do List

Have you noticed that your to do list is growing?

Sometimes it seems like for every item you complete, you have to add 2-5 more items. Or, does that just happen to me?

I used to have a notebook labeled “Never Ending List of 5-Minute Projects.” What was interesting was that list was mostly a compilation of tasks other people thought I should be doing. Very little of it had anything to do with what I was actually accountable for producing.

Give Up Being a Perfectionist

How many times have you NOT finished something because you didn’t get it perfect?

You heard it had to be done a specific way, but you just didn’t do it that way, so obviously it wasn’t done the right way, so what is the point?

Do you know how exhausting that is?

Have you ever wondered how much energy and time you were wasting trying to get something to be perfect?

What is perfect, anyway?

Usually, some way OTHER than the way we are doing it.

Give yourself a break.

Business Tip: De-Clutter Your Office

One of the reasons many of us get overwhelmed is the sheer volume of stuff that surrounds us.

It has been said that the average person spends up to one hour a day looking for things.

That adds up to 6-8 weeks out of every year – just looking for stuff!

I don’t know about you, but I can tolerate a certain amount of clutter and disorder. But sometimes that clutter and disorder gets out of hand!
