5 Gyres Institute

The 5 Gyres Institute has led the effort to research aquatic plastic pollution and to find solutions for regaining a plastic-free ocean, empowering citizens to become leaders in combating the global health crisis of plastic pollution. To understand the impact of plastic pollution they study the 5 subtropical gyres by sailing through them, organizing research expeditions, inviting scientists, journalists, and other sailors to join the crew, working side-by-side to conduct the science, and return to their communities engaged to promote solutions.

To eliminate plastic pollution they employ strategies that work: Advocating new materials, better designed products, fair legislation, and engaging in consumer education. Post-consumer cleanup efforts focus on coastal and island debris removal and mitigation.

DailyGood

DailyGood was born in 1998, when one college student started sharing inspiration with a half a dozen of his friends by sending them an enriching quote every day.

Today, DailyGood leverages the internet to promote positive and uplifting news around the world to more than 100,000 subscribers through the daily and weekly newsletters. Readers receive a news story, an inspiring quote, and a suggested action that each person can take to make a difference in their own lives and the world around them.

Often times, watching the nightly news and reading mainstream newspapers it's hard to remember the presence of good in the world. And yet it is constantly around us. The world is full of everyday heroes and true stories of transformation. They have helped sustain life down the ages in a multitude of ways, small, simple, and profound. DailyGood aims to shine a light on these stories and in doing so to change the nature of our conversations. If it can spread a few smiles along the way it's purpose is served.

Our philosophy is quite simple: "Be the change that you wish to see in the world." The entire project is fully run by dedicated volunteers who contribute hundreds of hours finding the right stories and quotes. All of our content is distributed and syndicated for free. We don't advertise or promote any products. We don't ask for anything with the trust that whatever is needed will come.

Garvin Jabusch

Garvin is the Chief Investment Officer for Green Alpha Advisors, where he leads investment research; conducts macroeconomic, scientific, and technological analysis; and develops and communicates the Next Economy investment approach.

Prior to co-founding Green Alpha with Jeremy Deems in 2007, Garvin had realized that traditional investment methods constrained the opportunity to have impact and achieve long-term competitive returns. How could he invest in the leaders of tomorrow’s sustainable economy if they were limited to an index of the carbon economy’s winners? Together with Jeremy, Garvin decided to throw out the rule book, found Green Alpha, and begin investing in the Next Economy—a method that aims to invest only in innovative solutions to system-level risks like climate change, never in their causes.

Garvin previously worked at Forward Management, LLC where he managed the Sierra Club Stock Fund and the Sierra Club Equity Income Fund.

Before Forward Management, Garvin served at Morgan Stanley as well as initiatives in research and analysis, trading, and mutual fund sales.

Earlier, Garvin studied in the Ph.D. program in physical anthropology and archaeology for five years at the University of Utah. Garvin was a field Director for the American Expedition to Petra, Jordan for two excavation seasons, and served as archaeologist and crew chief at many sites in the American West. Other jobs held by Garvin have included EMT and whitewater rafting guide.

Garvin holds an MBA in international management and finance from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird). His mix of business and science-intensive backgrounds brings knowledge of long-term systemic risk and societal collapse to portfolio management.

Each scenario is evaluated over a 10-year horizon with the following summary statistics:

Present value – what is the total value of your investment and expected returns in today’s dollars?
Return on investment (ROI) – how much of your original investment will you make back?
Payback period – how long will it take you to recoup your original investment?

Sarah Lefkowitz

Sarah Lefkowitz, Registered Dietitian (RD) was raised in an “organic foods only” home which taught her first hand the importance of a healthy diet. She developed a passion for cooking, farmer’s markets, food nutrient composition, yoga, nutrition education, and living a healthy and active lifestyle. Her philosophy revolves around the idea of food as medicine; looking at the properties of individual foods and harnessing them into life-long health and vitality. Earning her Bachelor of Science from the Pennsylvania State University in Nutritional Science she moved to LA to study nutrition in the UCLA Medical Center Dietetic Internship Program. She has worked within health care as part of the patient care team, rounding with doctors in ICU (intensive care unit) and trauma centers. Additionally, she provided outpatient counseling in a digestive disease clinic, wound care clinic and center for geriatric health. One of her greatest accomplishments within health care, was starting a hospital funded garden in Lynwood, CA, that provided low income families with locally grown fruits and vegetables. Stepping out of health care was a highly anticipated change of pace within her career and opened her eyes to a world beyond the hospital. Working with a start-up company run by the former CEO of AOL and Myspace, presented an exciting amount of new challenges. She was involved in education, branding, social media and marketing of a widely popular woman's athletic wear company. Going further into her career she led the Los Angeles Dietetic Association as President and continues to build a community under the name FearlessFig that is focused on health and wellness, creating a support system for a healthy lifestyle.

Pericles Rellas

Pericles Rellas is a prosperity coach who, for over 20 years, has worked with tens of thousands of people to live lives of power, purpose, and prosperity.

Almost 25 years ago he noticed that his business clients exhibited what he now calls a ‘condition’ around money. Regardless of how much more they made, their situation and experience around money remained the same - stress, anxiety, dread, and just treading water or being behind. He set out to understand why and how to transform this condition. Thus the birth of Abundance & Prosperity.

There are myriad coaches who are great at helping you make more money. Pericles is one of the few who actually works with you to not only create powerful (and empowering) structures to manage the flow of money in your life, but also to transform your relationship to money. By combining these approaches, it allows you to expand your capacity to earn and keep more money, thus having and experiencing Abundance & Prosperity in your life right now. All while maintaining your personal spiritual path.

It is not about working harder or more - it’s about your relationship to money.

You can find out more about Pericles and his Abundance & Prosperity program by visiting his Website or Facebook page.
