Between work and family life it can be difficult to find time for yourself. The stress and pressure of everyday life can cause a lot of anxiety, and it can be challenging to know how to handle it. While you may not have time to take an elaborate vacation or rejuvenate at a spa, there are some things you can do to help take the pressure off. Next time you're feeling particularly anxious, try distracting yourself with one of these tricks.

Exercise

Exercise is truly one of the best ways to relieve stress. It allows your body to create endorphins, which make you feel happier. The important thing is to find a type of workout that you enjoy. Many people prefer running as a way to take their mind off of things. Kickboxing is a great stress reliever and gives you the opportunity to get out some anger while making new friends. Swimming is another popular choice. You can even look into different pool financing options and get one installed in your backyard to make your life even easier or visit your local spa or gym pool.

Meditate

Meditation is a way to clear your mind. Step away from technology and the busy world around you and just focus on yourself for a little while. Don't worry about meditating for hours each day. Even just five minutes can be beneficial. There are different techniques that people use depending on what you are looking to achieve. Try reading about the different ways to meditate online, or you can find some great books on meditation at your local library.

Find a Hobby

It's important to take your mind off of things when you're feeling anxious. Distracting yourself with a hobby can be very helpful. Gardening gives you the opportunity to take care of something, gets you out into the sunshine and is a great stress reliever. Many people like to do puzzles to keep busy. Knitting or crocheting helps keep your hands busy and your mind at ease. You can search online for a whole list of great hobbies to choose from.

Get Together With Friends

Sometimes you just need to be around people that you care about. If you're feeling down, call up some friends and ask them to meet up with you. Go bowling or just grab dinner somewhere. It really doesn't matter what you do as long as you are around your friends. Human contact is one of the best ways to pull yourself up if you're feeling blue.

Take a Bath

Light a candle, pour a glass of wine, throw in some bubbles and relax in the bath for a little while. The calming scents and warm water can do wonders for stress. You can simply lie back and relax, bring in your laptop and watch your favorite show or read a good book.

Listen to Music

Music can actually help to change your mood. Put on your favorite song and don't be afraid to belt out the lyrics. It can be freeing to sing at the top of your lungs for a little while. Just make sure to choose a relaxing or upbeat song and not something that will bring your mood down.

Laugh

Nothing can temporarily help anxiety quite like a good laugh. If you're feeling down, put on a funny movie or go to a comedy club. You won't be able to stay sad for long when you're doubled over in your seat. It's a great way to trick your mind and body into thinking you're in a good mood until you actually are in one.

It's important to understand the difference between everyday stress that you can handle yourself and full-blown anxiety. If you are feeling overwhelmed and don't know how to handle it, talk to your primary care physician. Reach out to friends and family members to help you through this hard time. Know that anxiety is completely normal and the best thing you can do is to take care of yourself.
