Let’s face it: getting out of bed in the morning can be difficult. While you might plan to wake up early to exercise, eat a healthy breakfast, or put in a little extra work, you don’t always keep your promises to yourself. If you find yourself going to bed late every night, then it’s no wonder why you can’t seem to wake up at 6 am for work. Try going to bed earlier by starting a nighttime routine. This will help your mind know that it’s time to begin settling down for the night. 

Next, look at your sleep environment. Is your bed not comfortable enough for you? Does your neck hurt when you wake up? If you think your bed is comfortable, then you might need to reconsider the type of pillow you use. If you sleep on your side and have back pain at night, consider using a body pillow between your legs to keep your spine in proper alignment. 

2. Get More Exercise

If you need help getting out of bed in the morning, you might not be getting enough exercise. Remember, exercise impacts your health, and your health impacts your sleep quality. If you find yourself with excessive energy at night, you might not be getting enough exercise to burn off all of your energy. 

You can begin slowly increasing your exercise by going on a hike and taking your water bottle to ensure that you stay hydrated to get the most out of your activity. Be careful not to exercise too late at night, though. Some people experience a surge of energy at night if they exercise too late in the day.

3. Change Your Diet

People who eat too late at night or a poor diet may experience digestion issues at night, which can keep them up and prevent them from being able to get out of bed in the morning. Learning better eating habits can help you go to bed earlier and wake up earlier. Not only that, but because food directly impacts your health, the better you eat, the more energy you’ll have in the morning and throughout the day, making getting out of bed much easier. 

4. Be More Optimistic

One reason why people struggle to get out of bed is that they start thinking about all of the things they have to do that day, which they see as a negative thing. Instead of thinking about the negatives that might present themselves in your day, become more optimistic and consider all of the good things that can happen. 

For example, you might normally think of going to work as a bad thing but remember that you see your friends there, which can give you a more optimistic outlook that can help you get out of bed every single morning. 

5. Move Your Alarm 

If you’ve ever woken up just to turn off your alarm and you don’t remember doing it, you’re not alone. The best thing you can do for yourself is set your alarm and put it across the room. To turn off your blaring alarm each morning, you’ll need to stand up and get out of bed. Once you get out of bed, you’re less likely to crawl back under the covers. Use this trick when you know that you need to get up at a certain time, and it can help you keep a more strict schedule. 

6. Have Your Morning Coffee Ready

Unless you live with a significant other who wakes up before you, you’ll need to set your coffee pot timer to before you wake up. The smell of coffee might be enough to get you out of bed alone. In the case that it’s not, you’ll have an easier time leaving bed if you know that a warm cup of coffee is waiting for you.

7. Have Your Pet Wake You Up

Of course, you need a pet for this one, but if you happen to have a dog, then you’re already halfway there. Your dog is likely on a set potty schedule, which means that he or she will ask to go outside around the same times every day. If you readjust his or her schedule so that the potty breaks coincide with the time that you have to wake up, we guarantee that your dog will wake you. Not to mention, there’s no better reason to get out of bed than to spend a few quality minutes with your dog. 

8. Ask for a Wake-Up Call

If you have friends or family that wake up around the same time as you, ask them to give you a call to wake you up, especially on days that you know you need to be up at a certain time. While you can ignore the call like you can an alarm, you’ll be less likely to do so because it’s rude. Instead of being rude, you’ll want to accept the call from the person who you asked to call you in the first place. 

Make sure that you ask one of your favorite people to talk to to do this favor for you so that you can look forward to a great conversation that can get your day started on the right foot.
