You Don't Need to Meditate

Hype surrounding meditation abounds. Wherever you look, someone is extolling the virtues of meditation while unwittingly sabotaging its occurrence. The intent is to help people better manage stress and enjoy more fulfilling lives. But what many refer to as meditation is often nothing of the sort and, with all the grandiose claims being bandied about, easily engenders more problems than it solves.

My Unexpected Silent Retreat

I’ve recently had to have a pretty invasive but not difficult or worrisome throat surgery. In addition to the first wave of healing pain and running-into-doors-and-corners hours waiting for general anesthesia to work its way out of my system, I am on seven days of forced vocal rest. Talk about out of your comfort zone.

Reflections of an Ex-Angry Person

By Ray Potter / Going Organic Magazine

How I Changed My Mind and Got Happier

I’m a former angry person. I used to be angry most of the time. It was a rare morning when I got out of the house without at least one outburst. Of course, I always had a good reason for my anger. I cut myself shaving. I dropped a glass of orange juice at breakfast. The toast burned. Who wouldn’t be upset? And don’t even ask me about traffic. I never once made it to work without getting angry.

Should Meditation be Mandatory

Businesses are becoming more interested in meditation, it’s increasingly seen as a practical method for stress reduction.

More and more businesses and managers are becoming interested in meditation. The word no longer conjures images of vagueness or flakiness, but is increasingly seen as a practical method for stress reduction. And that’s hardly a luxury in our seemingly ever turbulent modern world.
